SmartArtwork 'CTE Digital Art Show'

How do you get your students to take pride in their creative endeavors
and make them feel like a million bucks on a budget? By showcasing their work to
the world through a digital art show, suitably named the smartworkshow to
capture the digitally smart nature of using technology within high school
classrooms to highlight original student pieces. San Mateo County Office of
Education is doing just that, and they're using Ning as the epicenter for their
digital art show.  San Mateo County Office of Education unveiled its student art
show and expanded the project this year to include schools in Santa Clara, Los
Angeles and other counties in California. Many of the teachers did not know each
other prior to this project, and currently work together to help organize the
exhibition. These teachers share lesson plans and projects, communicate across
schools and district boundaries to solve problems, ask questions and work
together within an art, media, entertainment and engineering focal group. These
rigorous CTE courses meet CTE, California Common Core Standards and University
of California a-g requirements, while utilizing 21st century skills with an
ultimate goal of providing students with skills and information about viable
careers. SMartWork Show highlights the classroom work of high school students
enrolled in Career Technical Education (CTE courses).
